First Family Vacation

Where has the summer gone? Derrick is back in school as of this week so we feel as if summer is officially over. Of course the temperature outside says otherwise. So I am playing catch up once again…

Fourth of July. We headed to Mississippi for the week with Chewmomma and Dad-Dad. We went to Corinth because Dad-Dad is working there for the summer. There is not a whole lot of happenings in Corinth, but there is a ton of good food and more local restaurants than you can shake a stick at – which we loved. There are several Civil War attractions in and around Corinth including the Shiloh battlefield (which we didn't technically visit but we did drive past it on our way to eat fried catfish so I feel like that counts).

They were actually having the “Slugburger Festival” in Corinth while we were visiting. Now we had no clue what everyone was talking about, but apparently Corinth is the home of the slugburger. A slugburger thankfully has no slugs in it – we checked. It is a burger made with a little beef/pork and then some flour, cornmeal or soybean meal, depending on where you get it. And then it is deep fried. Crispy goodness! They used to sell them for a “slug” nickel and that’s how they got their name. History lesson while eating fried food.

We did visit a Civil War museum…

Pickwick Dam…

Sherriff Buford Pusser’s home who was the inspiration for the movie “Walking Tall”. I thought we were visiting the home of Buford T. Justice from “Smokey and the Bandit”. I was a little confused.

The oldest pharmacy in Mississippi (which still is open and serves slugburgers and milkshakes)…

And of course we did a little swimming…
